About the Toy Box
This project will take most folks a day or two to complete. It requires only simple hand tools plus a sabre saw and a circular saw. The main material, boxcar siding is great stuff. After some sanding, a coat of polyurethane varnish and it will be a keepsake for a couple generations. My grand babies outgrew toys and now the granddaughter uses it for her hope chest. The toy box measures 30" long, 15" deep and 22-1/2" high.
I built this because I was concerned about safety. The finger relief ares around the lid will minimize the chances of little fingers getting pinched and that fancy hinge in the middle prevents the lid from slamming down on a hand or head. As I said, my grand babies have outgrown the toy box and after 10 years neither of them were ever hurt by the box. Enjoy the project. I am sure the babies will enjoy the result.
